Pennyweight Winery was established by Stephen Newton Morris in 1982. The name Morris as been synonymous with the wine industry for over 150 years.

Stephen’s great grandfather George Francis Morris was a baker and general merchant in Camp Street Beechworth, Woolshed and Sebastopol Flat. By the age of 25, having made his fortune, he bought property at Brown’s Plains Rutherglen, and in 1860, established the Morris name in the wine industry.

Stephen Newton Morris was the wine maker at the original Morris Vineyard, Fairfield Vineyard (at the time owned by his cousin Mrs. Melba Morris-Slamen) for 12 years. His Grandfather, Charles Hughes Morris, established Morris Wines at Mia Mia vineyard, Rutherglen at the turn of the century. Stephen’s father, Frederick Hughes Morris was a partner in Morris Wines at Mia Mia until the winery was sold in 1969.

Pennyweight Winery is managed and operated by Stephen and his wife Elizabeth, as well as their son and wine maker Stephen MG Morris, his partner Danielle L’Huillier and their baby daughter Louisa May Morris.
